Maintaining a Qushin Dog Bed with a removable cover is relatively quick and easy. However, it is essential to keep it clean and hygienic for your furry friend’s well-being. Here are some steps you can follow to maintain a dog bed with a removable cover. By following these maintenance tips, you can ensure that your dog’s bed remains clean and comfortable, promoting their overall well-being and hygiene. Regular cleaning and care will also extend the life of the bed and keep it looking fresh.
Regular Cleaning:
Remove the bed’s cover and shake off any loose debris, such as fur, dirt, or crumbs. Depending on your dog’s activity level and any accidents, you should aim to wash the cover at least once a month or as needed.
Machine Washable Covers:
All Qushin covers are machine washable.
Use a gentle cycle with a max of 40 degrees of hot water and a mild, pet-friendly detergent. Avoid using harsh detergents or bleach, as they can damage the fabric and irritate your dog’s skin.
Zipper Closure:
Ensure that the cover has a sturdy zipper closure. Before washing, zip it up completely to prevent any damage to the zipper or the cover itself.
Stain and Odor Removal:
For tough stains or odors, pretreat the affected areas with a pet-safe stain and odor remover before washing. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product you use.
Drying:
If the cover is dryer-safe, tumble dry it on low heat. Use dryer balls or clean tennis balls to help fluff up the filling.
Filling Maintenance:
While the cover is being washed, we recommend you open the inner cover and inspect the filling of your dog bed for any clumps. Shaking the filling of your dog bed from time to time is a good practice to help redistribute the filling evenly and maintain the bed’s comfort and shape. If the filling is not in good condition, consider replacing it or purchasing some extra filling. Also, we recommend washing the filling at least once a year with our Qushin “Wash ‘n’ Refresh” bag. All you have to do is open the inner cover, pop the filling into this special bag, and toss it in the washer! Set your washing machine to 60 degrees and choose a gentle cycle. Use a pet-safe detergent that is free from harsh chemicals or fragrances that might irritate your dog. For larger sizes of our dog beds, you will have to repeat this washing process several times and be careful not to overfill the “Wash ‘n’ Refresh” bag. Also, we recommend drying in a tumble dryer with dryer balls or clean tennis balls to help fluff up the filling.
Spot Cleaning:
For minor spills or stains, spot-clean the cover as soon as possible to prevent them from setting in. Use a damp cloth and a mild detergent.
Maintain a Clean Environment:
Keep your dog’s sleeping area and the surrounding space clean to minimize the accumulation of dirt and allergens.
